Claudia Williams : New Paintings
Claudia Williams : New Paintings upcoming exhibition at the Martin Tinney Gallery Cardiff, 11th February - 6th March 2010 showing her most recent work in celebration of her 77th birthday.

'Smile Please'
Claudia Williams was born in 1933 and is a well- established figure on the Welsh art scene, where she returned to live and work several years ago. Previously she lived in France where her work is also highly regarded. She was awarded the Silver Medal by The Academy of Arts and Sciences and Letters, Paris 1995 in recognition of her contribution to the Arts in France.

'Picnic on the Rock, Chocolate Cake'
As a child, Claudia's gift for draughtmanship was evident and she won several national prizes and scholarships for her drawings. At the age of sixteen she attended the Chelsea School of Art, where again her draughtsmanship was recognised with a scholarship. After Chelsea, she moved to north Wales to marry the artist Gwilym Pritchard in 1954, since when she has continued to exhibit with increasing success.

'Family Treat'
Claudia's paintings have always reflected the domestic world of children and grandchildren, family gatherings and seaside trips. But she has also touched on more controversial issues, notably the drowning of Tryweryn. Her obvious love of the subject matter, allied with a rigorous eye for composition and colour, and quality of her draughtsmanship combine to produce paintings of great integrity and broad appeal.

'The School Rush'
Claudia has exhibited widely over the past 50 years and her work is represented in many public and private collections. A hugely popular retrospective was held at the National Library of Wales in 2000 and she is scheduled to have another retrospective of her Tryweryn paintings from June to September this year at the National Library of Wales.
